Melbourne-based Balance Music, home to the long-running compilation series of the same name, bring us a debut long-player from local talent Uone that’s part studio album, part mix comp, and if you’re a fan of the label generally you’ll find plenty to enjoy. ‘Space Between Love’, featuring a Stevie Nicks-esque vocal from Briony Taylor-Brooks, is simply stunning – think Ennie Morricone remixed by Solomun and you’re somewhere in the ballpark. But there’s plenty more goodness where that came from! Operating in the nebulous zone where deep and progressive house overlap, and borrowing rhythms and sounds from around the globe, this album is an engaging, involving listen that’s best appreciated when served whole.

Amsterdam Gets Physical 2018 by Reboot by Various Artists
Acclaimed German DJ & producer Reboot takes the reins of the essential next Get Physical compilation, this time focusing on Amsterdam ahead of the famous conference.
Reboot’s innovative house & techno has landed on Get Physical since 2016 in the form of two EPs and one excellent full length offering. Before that he amassed a fine discography of expertly designed, infectious grooves on labels like Cadenza, Defected and Cocoon. In September he releases his next great four tracker, Endis, on the label, and this compilation features six of his superb originals with six of his trademark remixes making up the rest of the tracklist.
Things open up with Reboot’s ‘Krazkil’, a freaky tune filled with alien sounds scuttling over a rubbery drum line, then his remix of Spettro’s ‘Get Tropical’ gets more percussive and tribal with its loose, tumbling toms, and three more remixes of Ramboiage, DJ T. and M.A.N.D.Y. sink into deep house, loopy jazz tinged grooves and scintillating, spaced out tech.
The perfectly balanced mid-section takes in originals ‘Paroxysm’ and ‘Rocbell’ which are wonderfully dreamy house tracks with gorgeously pensive pads, then remixes of Animal Trainer and Pezzner that strip things back to deep, cavernous grooves designed to get lost in. A closing and terrific trio of Reboot tunes keep things spine tinglingly deep and spacious, the last of which is laced with beautiful ambience and drifting spoken word vocals that leave your mind feeling utterly empty and soothed.
This is a fantastic mix that shows off Reboot’s expert knack for stripped back but atmospheric and all-consuming grooves.

The Four40 imprint returns with the fourth installment in their popular House X Garage series, which does exactly what it says on the tin.
Across 19 blistering tracks, the Birmingham based label presents the very best of UK dance music, with highlights not limited to: the return of Audiosoul who serve up some sleek and slinky house for the late night on “Carnival” and “Please Leave A Message”, local duo Cause & Affect (Tempa/This Ain’t Bristol) remix I Killed Kenny’s “Lets Go” featuring Jamie George – getting some serious bass driven attitude going on in the process. And an honourable mention to the cheekily named Peter & The Stringfellows who equally impressed us with their contributions – but for our money we’d bet on the very French Touch sounding “YOU & I Together” in particular.

Though billed as a various artists compilation, this is essentially a career-spanning Faze Action ‘best of’ that also includes a handful of collaborations and contributions from their various side projects (Andromeda Orchestra, Rudy’s Midnight Machine). And yes, it stretches all the way back to ‘In The Trees’! Long-term fans will of course have much of the material featured here already, which makes the non-FA cuts even more welcome, but if you’re just discovering the musical delights of the brothers Lee, then this collection is a great way to get better acquainted before delving into the full, extensive back catalogue…
