As the wind whistles through your hair, everything passes you by in a blur. Faster and faster you go, faster and more terrifyingly into the abyss you fall. You scream with a mixture of panic and joyful abandon half wanting this to never end but knowing that it will anytime now: a smile creeps across your face. And as it ends, you breathe a sigh of relief, wistfully remembering with powerful emotive accuracy before hurriedly joining the back of the queue for another go – after all, it’s just a ride. Life is very much like the Blitzbahn’. It goes up and down, round and round and for much of the ride, we never know what’s going to happen.

Kunzima Theology - Thula DW180 Dopewax

ARTIST Kunzima Theology
RELEASE TITLE Thula
LABEL Dopewax
CATALOG DW180
GENRE Afro House
QUALITY 320kbps CBR
RELEASE DATE 2018-01-05
3 TRACKS:

  1. Kunzima Theology – Meeting The Elders (Original Mix) 05:16 115bpm A♯min
  2. Kunzima Theology – Theology (Original Mix) 08:43 122bpm Amin
  3. Kunzima Theology – Thula (Original Mix) 06:24 121bpm Fmaj

In Zulu, “Thula” can mean peace and/or quiet. Urban Dictionary however, defines it as “an intimidating, sexual woman who will do whatever she can to get what she wants. She’s kind, but has a dark and mysterious side.” We like to think this EP as having a bit of both elements. South African producer Kunzima Theology puts forth his 3-instrumental Thula EP, bringing harmony to the soul as well as moments that delve into obscurity. On “Meeting the Elders” we hear a ritualistic incantation of xylophone riffs and organic rhythms punctuated by a dark bassy synth loop. “Theology” is up next, with its alluring and moody strings popping with bubbly percussion casting a virtual spell on the dance floor spirits. The EP’s namesake, “Thula” rounds things off with a steady 4/5 and staccato synth whose energy builds to a crescendo of vivid strings that peak and plunge back to its sweet-sounding center. An overall good example of how musical forms can embody one’s state of mind, no matter how zen or wild.
