Splits (001-4) brings together the first four releases on Facta and K-LONE’s Wisdom Teeth label – re-issued, re-packaged and released digitally for the first time.
Originally released between 2014-16 as a series of split 12? singles, the tracks cover the label’s formative years, featuring early cuts from a crew of now-established artists: Wen, Hodge, Acre, Etch, Alex Coulton, Chevel, Simo Cell and the label heads themselves.
The compilation gives new life to a set of tracks that had until now been limited to out-of-print vinyl presses, and provides a summary of the label’s contribution to that particularly fluid, hyperactive period of UK dance music.

Richard For set up the RFR label last year and its split series has already played host to Skee Mask and Jichael Mackson. For the third Bavarian Stallion instalment, For pulls out the stops and welcomes the Zenker Brothers, who deliver the noisy, distorted “Schwirbler”. Newcomer Jelly 3000 also focuses on techno, but ups the pace and covers the high-speed arrangement in hypnotic chords. In contrast, Kessel Vale’s “Stroke” is a busy, broken beat affair that revolves around disco stabs and sharp, rolling drums, while Steril rounds off this third Bavarian Stallion release with the fragmented, vocal-heavy IDM meets electro of “Subsonic”.

R&S founder Renaat Vandepapeliere launches part two of his new series RV Trax, an imprint to reflect the sound of his DJ sets and to give a platform to artists not based on social media likes or online hype.
Finally succumbing to the temptation to try his own hand at rocking the crowd his DJ sets have seen him assemble a treasure trove of unreleased music that will now find a very personal home on RV Trax. Emblazoned with the Belgian national colours of black, yellow and red these tracks proudly flaunt their ‘floor-filling dynamics.
Part two explores classic House and Techno sounds from artists based in France, Italy and England.
Wavescape is Paul Weston who first appeared under this name in the golden era of original UK tech-house releasing alongside the likes of Ian O’Brien and Downlink on labels like Solid groove records and Mark Ambrose’s Crayon records. ‘Voyager’ is classic jazz-techno that wouldn’t look at of place on an import with the 313 postcode stamp.
A-Sim is a brand new artist from France who has just released a debut EP on Frankfurt’s Rawax making him label mates with the likes of Gigi Galaxy, Marco Bernardi and Neil Landstrumm – all artists he shares some DNA with. ‘Love & Hate’ is slinky deep electro that also takes inspiration from UK bass.
Marc Vain drops some trademark deep techno that makes it clear why he has picked up high profile fans like Anthony Shakir, Sean Deason, Terrence Parker and Jay Denham over the years. Blackstone is a new artist from Italy who supplies a lively drum track dj tool. Mix it up don’t play it raw.

The second split Mutable Minds release continues in the same mind-melting vein as the first instalment. Label owner Pfirter sets the tone with the distorted acid, pile-driving percussion and distorted kicks of “Anti Routine”. On “Sleepwalker”, newcomer Fixeer recalls the most visceral moments of early Planetary Assault Systems, as gained drums and busy layers of metallic percussion come together for an intense arrangement. Kuf & Dold’s “Mint” ups the pace with a pounding rhythm track that resounds to doubled up claps, pounding 4/4s and gnarly riffs, while the most reserved contribution comes in the form of Jonas Kopp’s dubbed out “Biorritmo”.

Sharif Laffrey is something of an unheralded hero of the underground Detroit scene. Active since the halcyon days of the mid-90s Motor City rave movement, his sporadic releases are rarely less than superb (as those who copped last year’s radical, thrillingly wayward acid house mutilation of Pet Shop Boys “Always On My Mind/In My House” will attest). The one-track “And Dance” is another delightfully wonky epic; a 14-minute fusion of chopped-up Italo-disco loops, rising and falling acid lines and heavily manipulated spoken word vocals. There are multiple stops, starts, breakdowns, drops and build-ups, with Laffrey subtly building up the pressure via waves of wonky Motor City electronics throughout. There aren’t many of these around, so act fast if you want to secure a copy.
