Lena Willikens is not only the first female DJ to curate a compilation for Dekmantel’s Selectors series, but also the first to put the emphasis on previously unreleased music rather than dusty-fingered crate-digging gems. That’s not to say there aren’t excellent older cuts present – see the decidedly psychedelic brilliance of Sandoz’s ambient dub earworm “Morning Star (Dubmix)” and the trippy 2001 industrial dub techno of Vromb’s “Amalgame” – just that there are a few more previously unheard killers. These include, but aren’t limited too, the drowsy broken techno of Jasss’s “Little Lines”, Parrish Smith’s jacking industrial house shuffler “Minima” and the druggy, mind-altering synthesizer soundtrack throb of Borusiade’s intoxicating “Night Drive (An Exercise in Indulgence)”.

This Miami born artist is one of dance music’s success stories. Eric Estornel aka Maceo Plex began his career as a DJ in 1993 playing a mixture of electro, House and Detroit techno. After earning a modest living opening up for acts like Green Velvet, Plastikman, and many other present day veterans, the enthusiastic conductor turned his sights to music production in 1996. What followed would be a series of releases under various monikers that have helped to shape and define his present day style characterised by deep opaque bass lines and lush soundscapes.

Picture: Undercatt is like a splendid night out. The record lures you in with its warm and melodic Deep House vibe, gradually building up its pace in a crescendo until it culminates into heavy Techno. After the peak, the record sends you off with a melancholically sweet good-bye.

Diynamic Music’s Picture: series is a document in time, showcasing an artist’s current creative output in order to allow the listener to visualise and understand the artist at a certain moment. It is not an album format, but far more than merely an EP. Picture: is various dancefloor-oriented facettes of one producer, shaping the imagery that ultimately results in the listeners mind.

Hallo Montag 2018 Part 1 HM01PT1 Suol

ARTIST VA
RELEASE TITLE Hallo Montag 2018, Pt. 1
LABEL Suol
CATALOG HM01PT1
GENRE House, Deep House
QUALITY 320kbps CBR
RELEASE DATE 04/20/2018

6 TRACKS:

  1. Black Loops – Is This A Banger? (Original Mix) 05:12 123bpm Dmin
  2. Carlo – Lluvia (Original Mix) 06:30 124bpm Amin
  3. Ian Pooley – Time (Original Mix) 05:38 121bpm A♯min
  4. Iron Curtis – The Further You Look (Original Mix) 06:11 126bpm Amin
  5. M.ono – Waffelhaus (Original Mix) 06:28 125bpm Amin
  6. Schiggeria – Muggelhausen (Original Mix) 06:56 120bpm Gmin

Predictably, Suol has gathered together tracks from an impressive list of deep house producers for this expansive first volume in the Hallo Montag 2018 series. German veteran Ian Pooley sets the tone with the jacking, acid-tinged deep house bounce of “Time”, before M Ono shows off his synthesizer soloing skills via the glassy-eyed Balearic house brilliance of “Waffelhaus”. Iron Curtis’s contribution, “The Further You Look”, sounds simultaneously low-slung and gently dreamy (it’s a fine combination), while Black Loops doff a cap to the greats of disco-house via the funk-fuelled, sample-heavy stomp of “Is This A Banger?” If you’re in the mood for something a bit more bumping, the boompty-inspired stomp that is Carlo’s “Lluvia” should be right up your alley.
