Some 12 years have passed since Miguel Migs’s Salted label delivered the first volume in the popular Flavor Saver series. Volume 24 begins with a fine chunk of bouncy deep house funk from WillowMan, whose “Just Around” is propelled forwards by fuzzy Clavinet bass, delay-laden high octave vocal snippets and rich, jammed-out electric piano riffs. There’s a similar feel to the warm but driving goodness of Richard Scholtz’s “Can U Feel It”, while Vertigini’s “Don’t Stop” is a smoother and dreamier deep house number that nevertheless packs serious low-end punch. Best of all, though, is Distant People’s “Feel The Drum”, a wonderfully heavy and low-slung affair that we can imagine getting things going at San Francisco warehouse parties in the wee small hours.
