We did a rough GU survey of what DJs thought was going to be the sound of Ibiza this year and the thing that kept popping up is disco. Last year, we didn’t hear much of that going on, tech-house was still the main event as far as wecould see. But maybe this year with Denis Sulta’s new one going off in such a big way we’ll see more glitterball grooves on the dancefloor.

With that in mind, we’ve added some exclusive seventies flavours to this years Ibiza compilation. CASSIMM and Kevin McKay take one of our favourite disco cuts and brush it up for 2018 while newcomers Hurlee & Gaol deliver a superb slow-burning disco jam that should be entertaining pool parties all summer. On the tech front we have new hits from Danny Howard, Sante Sansone, Emery Warman, Vlada Asanin, Magitman, DFTD star Qubiko and Mother Recordings’ Ordonez alongside new recruits Atriea, Emma J White & Yvette Lindquist.

Review:
For an artist who was catapulted onto the international stage by asking “Who’s Afraid Of Detroit?”, things have come full circle. Claude Von Stroke’s latest venture takes him back to the Motor City and features a recording of his DJ set from the recent Movement festival. Fittingly, it starts with the steely electro of Van Stroke’s own “Maharaja” before heading into the stripped back techno of Tom Reed & Sonik’s “Alert”, veering into harder sounds courtesy of Will Clarke & Born Dirty’s relentless “Boss Man” and peaking with the raw, percussive “Loud!” by Alex Rubia and Maiki. As homecomings go, it’s an impressively raucous one.

Review:
For the sixth instalment in Z Records impeccable “Under The Infliuence” series of crate-digging compilations, boss man Dave Lee (AKA Joey Negro) has turned to fellow London scene veterans Simon and Robin Lee, AKA Faze Action. Their selections are, as expected, superb, mixing their own edits of familiar favourites (Midway’s ace “Set It Off” and Mikki’s “Dance Lover” for starters) with material that’s as obscure and over-looked as you’d expect. Standouts in the latter category include the smooth ’80s boogie of Leston Paul’s “All Nite Tonight”, the sublime Afro-disco of Bebe Manga, the thrillingly up-tempo hustle of Oscar Perry’s “Body Movements”, some superb South American disco from Don Lurio and Michele Claire’s lesser-known version of disco favourite “In The Bush”.

The Soma Coma Series returns with its 7th instalment, bringing original and reworked tracks from Soma’s current roster alongside some of the wider electronic music community. Aimed at the more ambient, cerebral side of Techno, Soma Coma 7 features Slam, Rebekah, Edit Select, Jonas Kopp, Clouds and more adding to the high standard set by this well loved compilation series.

Consisting of a massive 13 tracks, the immersive qualities of the album are apparent from the start with Deepbass’ Ambient Version of Circa opening the album, quickly followed by the always on point Deepchord with Roca 9 – tarn from his most recent Soma LP. Current Soma collaborators SLV & Edit Select offer two very contrasting pieces with Glasgow’s own Petrichor making an appearance with the glistening Ko-Rah. An uncharacteristic piece from Rebekah highlights her dynamic production skills while recent offerings from 04LM & Charles fencer once again find their place within the album. Labels heads Slam makes various appearances with exclusive remixes of their ‘Reverse Proceed’ project finally seeing the light of day. Jonas Kopp, Clouds, & Jeroen Search breathe new life into the already exquisite material from the Glasgow Duo.
